Thank you, Lonnie, for your and Larry's efforts with my horse during Gasparilla. I am hoping that the next couple weeks will help with this "conundrum" of a horse.(Maybe we should change his name??) Admin reply: It was my pleasure. Thank you.

Hi! Regarding the Morgan in the "Frightening Horse" problem... I have had a similar experience and the problem was me. Due to a long story I won't bother with, I have a thing called post-traumatic stress syndrome. When activated, I get a big surge of anxiety. Of course the horse senses this, he can feel me tense up and feel the energy of that emotion coming from me. It seems like we have a conversation, with the horse saying, "You're tense what's wrong?" and then I get more nervous, and the horse responds with "I'm scared" which raises my anxiety still more, derails my thinking, and is followed by some unfortunate behavior, both by me and the horse. This doesn't happen when driving, only riding. Nervous horses are a trigger, and I make game horses nervous when I ride them. I truly believe we subtly communicate all kinds of things to our horses. I have not yet been able to turn my PTSD around. Instead, I don't ride game horses. If I am honest with myself, I am not forgoing something I love, because when I ride, I feel horrible. I only love the IDEA of riding that game horse, not the experience. The Morgan lady mentions a serious accident on a horse just months before. I am NOT making a diagnosis of this woman. I just caught a whiff of that lesson I learned about communicating more than I realize to the horse. Admin reply: Thanks for your insightfull thoughts. Great advice!

Mr Lavery, First I want to tell you how much we out here appreciated you taking the time for us. Those of us do it yourself people have very few places to go for advice where someone like you will take the time to help us all say thanks. Your answer to Forml Dilima is just what I am talking about. This is my first year in Pleasure Eq and had just written to you the other day about the clothes. I had looked in the Rule book but as you say, it is so confusing I kind of gave up. After reading you answer to the other person, I decided to try again. I never really thought about how important it is to learn those things. You are right it really is my responsibility and now that I have gone back and spent a bunch of time looking in the book, I am glad to say I kinda know my way around it now and have answered most all of my questions. I am sort of proud of myself and guess I have you to thank. Wish I had more teachers at school like you. Betty (posted for Betty from CA who couldn't post to Guestbook) Admin reply: Thank you so much for your kind words. As there are no text books for "Horse Training 101" the only real way to learn is by observing and asking questions of those who have "been there, done that". As a very young man, I benefited greatly from not being afraid to ask questions of the likes of Tom and Donna,Chat, Frank and Garland, Art, Jim B, Earl, Lloyd, Bill, Bob, Phil, Don etc etc. Never dis any of these greats act as if they did not want to be of help. I feel similarly and am glad to be of some help.

Lonnie, I was speaking of my 5 yr old colt the other day, when someone asked me when a colt stops being a colt. I said, "That is a good question to which I do not have an answer." So I thought I would ask you. When is a colt no longer a colt? Admin reply: Doug, Great to hear from you...Look for your answer on the Front Page. Thanks, LL
